1. Getting Started
Hanna integrates directly into Microsoft Excel as a sidebar task pane and ribbon tab, allowing you to create, analyze, and modify spreadsheets using natural language.
Installation & Setup
- Install the Hanna add-in from the Microsoft Office Add-ins store or via your organization's admin deployment.
- Restart Excel if prompted. You should see a new Hanna tab appear in your ribbon.
- Click Open Hanna to launch the AI chat sidebar (Task Pane) on the right side of your screen.
- Sign in with your account or create a new one to get started.
Quick Access Options
- Hanna Tab: Click Open Hanna in the ribbon to launch the full chat panel.
- AI Formula Button: For quick formula generation without opening the full chat panel, click the AI Formula button directly from the ribbon.

Highlight a range of cells, or simply mention what you want to change, and ask Hanna to restructure, style, or format it.

- Example: "Add alternating row colors and freeze the header row."
Formula Generation & Fixing
Ask Hanna to write complex formulas or fix broken ones. When you select a corrupted #REF! or #DIV/0! cell, Hanna can analyze the context to repair the calculation.

- Example: "Fix this broken formula in cell D5."
Data Analysis & Insights
Ask Hanna to analyze your data and provide summaries, trends, or recommendations.

- Undo/History Tracking: If Hanna does something you don't like, its actions are tracked so you can instantly roll back changes.
- Voice Input: Instead of typing, use the microphone tool in the chat to speak your instructions.

8. Troubleshooting
Hanna tab not showing in ribbon
- Restart Excel completely and check the ribbon again.
- Go to File > Options > Add-ins and ensure Hanna is listed and enabled.
- If using a managed deployment, contact your IT administrator.
Chat panel not responding
- Check your internet connection — Hanna requires an active connection to process requests.
- Close and reopen the task pane by clicking "Open Hanna" again.
- Clear the chat history and try again.
Formulas not applying correctly
- Select the target cells before asking Hanna to write a formula for more accurate placement.
- Be specific about cell references and sheet names in your prompt.
- If a formula has an error, select the cell and ask Hanna to "fix this formula."
